Nice to meet you!
I am glad you are here. I am Andrea, a children's books author and illustrator, a teacher, a storyteller, and mom. I create books to inspire children to dream possibilities.
I've spent more than twenty years teaching Spanish in bilingual and multicultural classrooms. Over the years, I saw the same challenge again and again. Students disengaged and overwhelmed by traditional language learning.
Everything changed when I began teaching through stories.
Students became curious, participative, and excited to learn.
Cuentacuento was created to help teachers bring that same magic into their classrooms — easily and confidently.

My Story
Hi, I’m Andrea Olatunji, and I write books to inspire and empower children—especially the ones sitting in our Spanish classrooms, waiting to feel seen. I’m originally from Uruguay, lived in the United States for twenty years, and now call the Dominican Republic home. I’ve been teaching Spanish for almost two decades, from Kindergarten all the way to college. And through all those years, levels, and classrooms, I discovered something simple and powerful: everyone—without exception—loves a good story. As a Spanish teacher, I’ve used stories to engage and entertain, to teach language and highlight culture, to heal, connect, and validate my students’ experiences. But like so many of you, I struggled to find the right stories. I wanted books in Spanish that truly represented our beautiful Hispanic cultures. I wanted stories where my students could see themselves reflected—stories that were thoughtfully written, beautifully illustrated, and carried meaningful messages. Those books were hard to find. So I decided to create them. I began the journey of writing and illustrating my own books, designing each illustration by hand using paper collage. Every story I create is rooted in the classroom, shaped by years of teaching, and inspired by the real needs of teachers and students. I see you. I know how hard you work, how much you care, and how deeply you want your students to connect—not just to the language, but to themselves and their cultures. My goal is to support fellow Spanish teachers by giving you stories you can feel proud to share and excited to teach. I’m a teacher at heart, a passionate storyteller, and a firm believer in the power of stories to transform learning.

My art
Art sparks curiosity, creativity, and conversation.

I have always been drawn to art — especially the visual arts. While I don’t have formal training, I have spent years studying and observing the work of renowned painters and graphic artists, learning through curiosity, careful attention, and deep appreciation.

When I became an author, illustrating my own books felt natural. My artwork is created using mixed media and collage. I love layering papers to build images — because I believe stories, like art, are told in layers.

Every illustration is made entirely by hand. No AI. No digital editing. Just paper, texture, pencil marks, and process.

One of my greatest joys is watching children realize the illustrations are made from paper. They light up as they discover tiny details — even the “imperfections” like pencil strokes or wrinkles. Those small marks make the art human. And that, to me, is where the magic lives.

Why I am here for you:

If you’ve ever searched for a story in Spanish that truly reflects your students and/or your curriculum—and come up empty—you’re not alone. I’ve been there. These books are written with the Spanish curriculum in mind, with the intention to make learning more meaningful and fun. These books exist because of teachers like you, and for the students you care so deeply about.
